Brass Band Performance

Last night (Thursday 25th October) The Te Awamutu Auxiliary Band was asked to perform in Te Kuiti. The Te Awamutu Senior Brass Band was performing there as well. We were invited by Te Kuiti High School who was the opening act but they had their Concert Band playing. The difference between a brass band and a concert band is that brass bands basically feature brass instruments (cornets, euphoniums, trombone etc.) The trumpet is a brass instrument but isn’t an instrument played in basically any brass band. Instead of trumpets, cornets are used in brass bands. They are smaller versions of trumpets. So Hamish and I were a part of the Auxiliary band and were excited to be performing. So we were all packed up at 6pm and left from Te Awamutu. The auxiliary band’s conductor, left his briefcase back in Te Awamutu but remembered it before he left the parking lot. We arrived in Te Kuiti at about 7pm and started to unpack. The Te Kuiti High School Concert band went first and played brilliantly. We were up next and we were a bit nervous. The pieces we played were Giggleswick Scar, Singing in the Rain, Buddy and the Simpsons. After we finished playing, we were able to relax and listen to the Senior Band who played spectacular. After the Senior band, we packed up out equipment and arrived back in Te Awamutu at 10pm. It was a very intense experience playing a variety of pieces in front of an audience. Hamish and I really enjoyed ourselves and had a great time.
